Where light, art and tech meet
Lumen is a new festival happening in various locations in UpTown Waterloo September 28th.
Lumen is a light-based new media, media art, and projection-based festival. It’s a festival where art meets tech in captivating interdisciplinary arts installations.
Installations will feature the work of artists using a number of different mediums, and incorporate technology platforms to explore the exchange between technology and creativity. Platforms can be high-tech, low-tech or somewhere in-between. Lumen’s aim is to celebrate the wonderful public spaces in UpTown Waterloo, and to animate these spaces in a way which invites people to explore the city through a new lens.
This festival will feature the work of local and international artists, entrepreneurs, and technology. Among the more notable names in this year’s lineup is Kid Koala, an internationally acclaimed Montreal DJ who has worked with Gorillaz and Deltron 3030. He has also toured with the Beastie Boys, Radiohead and A Tribe Called Quest. At the festival, Kid Koala will lead audience members in a vinyl orchestra where they will be paired with a turntable and small crate of custom vinyl.
Lumen takes place in 25+ locations in uptown Waterloo on September 28th, 2019 from 6 to 11 p.m.
