The Kultrún World Music Festival has been dubbed the region’s largest annual outdoor dance party and is produced by Neruda Arts. This festival is a free, family-friendly event that attracts both visitors and residents alike. The purpose of the festival is to bring together top talent from around the world to help celebrate diversity.
Located downtown in Kitchener’s Victoria Park, the festival brings together world class music from local, national and international artists. Visitors can expect to hear musical genres such as Moroccan Gospel, Latin Jazz, and Quebecois sounds, to name a few.
Neruda Arts is a non-profit organization that hosts this world music event, and is dedicated to building bridges in communities through literary and visual arts, performance, dance, drama, and music. Throughout the years, Neruda Arts has attracted thousands of visitors to Waterloo Region. Its many workshops have helped emerging artists hone their talent and become all-around better performers. Since its early beginnings, Neruda Arts has created a strong presence within the culture and arts sector of Waterloo Region.
Beyond the music, there are plenty of interactive activities for people of all ages to take part in. The Kultrún World Music Festival has professional artist workshops like learning calligraphy; food, craft, and art markets; a beer garden cantina, as well as performance art such as mural painting. During the festival visitors can expect to hear influences from around the world, with artists coming from locations such as the First Nations, Iqaluit, South Africa, Brazil, and Turkey. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear, see, and experience the culture and music that the Kultrún World Music Festival has to display.
