For more than 30 years Centre In The Square has played a leading role in showcasing the best local and international performing arts.
It is the region’s largest and busiest performing arts centre, staging more than 158 events to more than 150,000 people in 2016. From classical music to rock, broadway shows to comedy, visitors are sure to find performances that thrill and excite!
The focal point of Centre In The Square is the Raffi Armenian Theatre. With seating for over 2,000 audience members, it was designed by Rieder, Hymmen and Lobban, and opened in September 1980. The main hall of The Centre is considered by many to be the finest acoustical space of its kind in Canada. It features moveable stage towers, curved walls, and a sophisticated system of canopies. The design offers unobstructed views of the stage, which is one of the largest stages in North America. Centre In The Square also has one of Canada’s largest orchestra pits, seating 110 musicians. It is wheelchair accessible, and hearing assistance devices for performances are also available.
There is also a 200-seat studio theatre, typically used for children’s programming, community events and as a rehearsal space for local choirs and the symphony. In addition, Centre In The Square is home to the permanent and temporary collections of the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
Conveniently located near the 401 and Highway 8, parking for the Centre In The Square is available at the City of Kitchener parking lot directly across the street from the theatre. Premium valet parking for performances can also be purchased when buying tickets online or at the box office.
