Since medieval times, the Christmas season has been brought to life in towns and cities across Germany with outdoor markets. They feature handmade ornaments, delectable food and traditional song and dance performances. This tradition was brought to Waterloo Region in 1996, with the establishment of the Christkindl Market located in Kitchener’s City Hall.
Today, this multiple award-winning festival attracts over 35,000 visitors from across North America. Over 95 vendors offer a variety of goods to browse, from food and Christmas décor to special Christmas gifts, clothing, and so much more.
Surround yourself in the rich German heritage, enjoy the bands, singers and dancers, explore the booths on the first and second floors of Kitchener’s City Hall and outside in small wooden huts on Carl Zehr Square and along King Street.
