Artist Concept Statement:
Maia’s vision for the concept was to embrace the theme as a true celebration. She wanted to show a fun party, which would include balloons, fireworks, rainbows, confetti and other party items. She decided to include historical landmarks and events from Waterloo Region.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
Maia participating in the Art Fresco Project because she wanted to be involved in showing how cool Waterloo Region is! The region has so much history and diversity and so many unique events. She was excited to showcase this in a fun and whimsical way and is honoured to be able to give back to her community.
Artist Background:
Maia is an 11 year old artist who has been painting since she was in kindergarten. She has been taking art classes for two years at Globe Studios in Kitchener. She has also had several of her pieces displayed at the Uptown Gallery in Waterloo every December for the past 3 years. She enjoys working with various media including acrylics, watercolours, pastels, pencil crayon and markers. She also loves to play tennis.
