Artist Concept Statement:
As a foreigner immigrating to a new country and city, Brubey’s first step is to pull up a map to see how she wants to explore the city. She is intrigued by the way a city’s streets are distinctly constructed, and the unique culture they represent by their straight or curvy lines or where the paths meet. Brubey’s concept employs contrasting yet welcoming colours to bring attention to the abstract map, and to how the city is constructed.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
After her recent graduation from the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Waterloo, Brubey made the decision to stay in Waterloo Region for another year to explore the Waterloo art scene. As an artist and designer, she has never gotten a chance to be involved in a public community project. Through the Art Fresco Project, she hopes to bring a different visual perspective as a Chinese immigrant.
