Never been to the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory? There are so many reasons to visit; here are 10 that are sure to entice you to make it part of your summer explorations!
The change in weather brings with it a change in routines. Weekdays are busy as school, work, meetings and extra-curricular activities fill up our calendars. That means weekends should be reserved for fun – and Waterloo Region has plenty of great ways to unwind!
Raise a stein and say Cheers at Bingemans Oktoberfest – where everyone can Be Bavarian! One ticket allows you to celebrate in its two large tents (or ‘festhallen’), plus the regions largest licenced patio – Prosit Platz! This Oktoberfest experience includes music (catch Germany’s ultimate party Rock band, DORFROCKER), dancing, Bavarian food, activities, and of course, beer! It’s four days of festivities October 11, 12, 18 and 19, and tickets are already on sale. Bingemans Oktoberfest is a perfect blend of local tradition and Munich flavours that will have you saying ‘Prost!’ (which is German for Cheers!).
Now, the Fears…. if your idea of weekend fun includes scaring yourself silly, get ready for Screampark at Bingemans! With 4 horrifying houses, 3 execution rides, 2 bone-chilling packages (Boston Pizza Package and Screampark Camping), and 1 escape room, the countdown is on to a limitless good time of fear! Wondering just how scary these attractions really are? Let’s just say the Scream Team at Bingemans takes pride in the number of guests who can’t complete the houses. FYI: there are emergency and ‘chicken-out’ exits for anyone who can’t take the terror! You also have the opportunity to save humanity at Screampark’s Zombie Paintball Hunt. Camp (if you dare!) for the night at Bingemans Camping Resort, just minutes from all the horror (two Screampark admission tickets and nightmares are included!).
If you want to get out of the city for a weekend, why not head to the beautiful countryside of Wellesley Township for the Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival? This year’s event is Saturday, September 28th, and it’s free to attend. As the name suggests, food plays a big part in this festival! There’s the early morning Pancake Breakfast, delicious apple fritters, lots of food booths, and a Smorgasbord Dinner (which includes everything from roast beef, pigtails and sauerkraut to an array of homemade pies – yum!). Wash it all down with a glass of Wellesley Brand apple cider. Along with the food, there’s lots to see and do at the Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival. Take a bus ride and visit a local farm, tour the Wellesley apple cider mill, see hundreds of antique cars and tractors, check out the model boat regatta, visit over 100 vendors at the Craft & Vendor Marketplace, and more.
This year marks the 44th annual festival, and all proceeds go back into the community (past proceeds have supported recreation facility upgrades, village beautification projects, public school upgrades and new equipment for the local fire department).
However you decide to spend your fall weekends, you’ll always have fun as you #ExploreWR!
