Boxed lunch, bag lunch, sack lunch: call it what you will, but a packed midday meal doesn’t necessarily mean the proverbial lunch bag let-down.
There are certain indications that the seasons in Waterloo Region are transitioning from one to another. When the calendar switches from summer to fall, leaves on the trees begin to change colour. In late fall, the arrival of frosty mornings and snow tells you winter is on its way. And when the season transitions from winter to spring, the sap begins to flow and it’s time once again for the sticky fun of Maple Syrup season!
St. Jacobs Horse Drawn Tours invites you to experience maple syrup season first hand, with one of their Sugar Bush Tours. Gather the entire family together and be part of an adventure everyone will remember! The tour begins from the St. Jacobs Horse Drawn Tours location at the St. Jacobs Famers’ Market. Travel to the sugar bush in a horse drawn shuttle – it’s a fun, old-fashioned ride through the beautiful countryside of Waterloo Region that takes you right into a local sugar bush.
As you enter the sugar bush, you’ll see the different methods used to collect the sap that is boiled down to make maple syrup. Meet the producer, find out how maple syrup was produced years ago, and see firsthand how farmers produce the sweet treat today. It’s an interactive tour so feel free to ask questions! Enjoy a number of family-friendly activities while you’re at the sugar bush, including old-fashioned log sawing, the Farm Petting Zoo, and tapping a maple tree. There’s also the maple gift shop, and maple taffy on snow available for purchase. Spend as much time as you’d like at the cabin, as the horse drawn shuttle makes regular trips back to the Farmers’ Market from the sugar bush.
Of course, a trip to the sugar bush wouldn’t be complete without a tasting! Enjoy the sweet, sticky goodness of freshly boiled maple syrup drizzled over pancakes – it’s all part of the experience!
