From spray pads to bowling, cooking classes to active endeavors, here are some ideas to help keep the kids entertained all summer long: BONUS - they’re fun for parents and guardians too!
Summer is the perfect time to become a tourist in your own back yard. Or, in the case of the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, become a tourist in their back yard, and take in their many free summer tours!
Throughout July and August, Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory provides programming for children designed to keep them learning, active and exploring. Kids can become an Amateur Entomologist and join in on a bug hunt. Or they can search, explore and discover with a scavenger hunt in the conservatory. And, at Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, everyone gets to take part in their Butterfly Games!
Adults can get in on the fun too, with a number of guided tours to learn more about the butterflies, animals and gardens at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory. These are 20 to 30 minute guided tours with one the conservatory’s Nature Interpreters.
The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory has an amazingly knowledgeable and passionate staff who enjoy sharing information (DYK: Butterflies sleep hanging upside down!), and love to answer questions from visitors. These tours are great for families, and cover a number of different topics, including the Inside Scoop of the Conservatory, where visitors learn more about where the butterflies come from (there are 1000’s of free-flying butterflies in the conservatory from all over the world), and how the conservatory is managed. You can also find out more about Butterfly and Pollinator Gardening while taking a stroll through the conservatory’s outdoor butterfly garden. All of their programs and tours help to further the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory’s mandate of educating and promoting conservation practices to the public, in a way that is fun and interactive.
Guided tours and children’s programming take place every day (including weekends), and are free with regular admission. (It’s a good idea to call ahead to ensure availability as schedules may change due to special events or bookings.)
The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. To find out more about the conservatory, visit their website.
