Ahhh Dad! The man who did so much for us when we were growing up – and who provided us with endless words of wisdom. Who could forget hearing such Dad phrases as, “Money doesn’t grow on trees you know,” “Were you raised in a barn?” or, “Don’t ask me – ask your mother”.
This Father’s Day, why not switch things up, and make this the day you share some wise words – and great gifts – with dad! Read on for some ideas. ‘Cause Dad – we Love You to the Moon and Back!
They Don’t Make Them Like They Used To
And that can be a good thing Dad, especially when it comes to one of your favourite beverages – beer! Craft beer is all the rage, and at Descendants Beer & Beverage Co., they brew their own craft beer recipes in their 15 hectalitre brewhouse. Their retail store sells growlers, cans, Crowler Cans and bottles – perfect for a Father’s Day celebration! This year, Descendants will be holding a 3 on 3 Ball Hockey Tournament in their parking lot on Father’s Day – so why not put a family team together, and be part of the fun?
Speaking of craft beer, the Waterloo Region Museum is hosting the 4th annual Hops for Pops Father’s Day Craft Beer Festival. It’s a unique beer festival where adults can sample local beer, while visiting with their family. In addition, the festival offers cider tastings, delicious food trucks, local vendors, live music, wagon rides and fun activities for all ages. If this sounds like dad’s perfect way to spend Father’s Day, tickets can be purchased in advance at Waterloo Region Museum, or on line.
Bored? I’ll give you something to do!
How about an exciting game of paintball on Father’s Day? Splatzone Paintball offers indoor and outdoor paintball fun for players of all ages, and all paintball abilities (no offense Dad!). There’s also low impact paintball – which is perfect for anyone who is new to the game. Splatzone also offers other activities, including Nerf Battles, Bazooka Ball, Button Bash and a Mission Impossible style laser maze (so dad can feel like a regular Ethan Hunt!)
If something a little more relaxing is more dad’s style, how about an afternoon of fishing? Lyndon Fishing Pond has been the home of family fun for over 50 years, and producers of top quality trout since 2002. It’s open for bait or fly fishing and the pond is stocked with over 3,000 lbs. (1,361 kg) of trout. Fishing rods, bait, and complimentary fish cleaning are all provided so Dad can just relax, reel ‘em in and enjoy his day!
No, We’re Not There Yet!
Dad, you’ll be so excited to visit Murphy’s Law Distillery it may seem like a long ride to get there – but it’s just in Elmira! Murphy’s Law is the only distillery in Ontario to exclusively make moonshine. Their Appalachian-styled moonshines are created using all-natural, authentic ingredients that are sourced locally. Want to find out more? Arrange a tour for dad, including a behind-the-scenes look at the process for making moonshine, a tasting of various flavours at Murphy’s Law, as well as a shot glass to bring home. Cheers to the Best Dad Ever!
