Another beautiful winter season is upon us in Waterloo Region and there’s so much to do with your whole family! Our family is starting to feel festive, and the holiday themed events are a must, but there’s also a lot to explore after the holidays. Check out the listing below of some of our favourite places for fun.

Christmas Fantasy – Opening
December 9, 2017 and onwards
Victoria Park, Kitchener, Ontario
FREE to attend

The opening event for Victoria Park’s Christmas Fantasy is December 9th, but don’t worry if you’ve missed that date – the lights are still a spectacle to see! If you are able to make it to the opening, arrive from 5:30 – 8:00pm and you’ll see and hear some fantastic live music, check out some cool crafts and don’t forget the free hot chocolate. Of course, at 6pm, the lights are turned on for all to see! This evening is great timing for the little ones as they’ll want to be cozy & warm in bed as the night finishes, so bundle up and head over to Kitchener’s Victoria Park this holiday season.

Christkindl Market
December 7-10, 2017
Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St W, Kitchener, Ontario
FREE to attend

Our family simply cannot miss a visit to the Kitchener City Hall Christkindl Market each December. We absolutely love the smells, sights and sounds of this festive marketplace and the gift ideas and inspiration here are fantastic. This year, according to their website, the festival has expanded to even more market stalls along king street to make room for more food for eating now or taking home for later. The kids are going to love this!

New Year’s Eve Kitchener
December 31, 2017
6:00pm – Midnight
Kitchener City Hall, Kitchener, Ontario

This year’s party theme is retro cartoons – so be sure your kids are informed about some of Mom & Dad’s old favourites such as Flintstones and Scooby Do! There will be themed vehicles, arcade games and crafts – but even more deliciously amazing, dive into a bowl full of cereal (with donation to the Rotary Club of Kitchener)! As always, there is free ice skating on Carl Zehr Square and live music as well as a festive countdown to 2018.

New Year’s Eve Waterloo
December 31, 2017
6:00pm – 9:00pm
Waterloo Public Square, Waterloo, Ontario
FREE to attend

Perfect for the kids, Waterloo is hosting the NYE family celebration in Waterloo Public Square. The wee ones will love the kids activities, music and a special countdown just for them at 9:00pm. This is  a great way to involve the whole family in this year’s celebration without a late late night.
