Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese Festival
September 30, 2017
FREE to attend – food purchases are extra
A festival that is food themed is always a crowd pleaser and the Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese festival is definitely on our family’s favourite list. The event is kicked off with a pancake breakfast and the delicious food offerings continue all day (Apple butter? Apple cider? Yes please!). Make sure you leave lots of time after eating to continue exploring the festival, as there are many other attractions available. From music and dancing, to puppet shows, a horseshoe tournament, farm and cider mill tours, as well as the craft and vendor marketplace, the whole family can take part in this full day experience.
September 29 – October 1, 2017

October 6-14, 2017
Rates vary depending on activity
Probably the Region’s biggest festival, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is not just for those looking to party at the Festhallen (although a babysitter may be in order for at least one night!). Kitchener’s German roots are highlighted in this week long family-centred festival at locations throughout our region. Some of our family’s favourite kid-friendly events include the Opening Ceremonies at Kitchener City hall for music, pretzels and sausages, the Thanksgiving Day Parade on October 9 (don’t forget your canned goods for the food drive), and The Bavarian Village at Kitchener Willkommen Platz for activities, food, souvenirs and other entertainment. Another (and more active) highlight is the 5K fun run in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region. Check out the Oktoberfest website for a full list of these and many more family friendly events and while you’re at the festival, keep an eye out all week for Onkel Hans, Tante Frieda and Ziggy unt Zaggy – all giant Oktoberfest themed costumes that your kids are sure to fall in love with.
