What started as a relief work-project during the Great Depression in the 1930s has evolved over the decades into a bona fide food destination known as Kitchener’s Belmont Village.
Located at Union Street and Belmont Avenue, the Village today is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to good food and hospitality – all within just a few blocks.
Where the second iteration of the popular Vincenzo’s food store once stood is now the Culinary Studio, a home for culinary instruction and event space as well as take-away meals and foods, hot lunches, cooking classes and farmer’s dinner events.
Nearby is the newest addition to the Village: self-dubbed as a “home brew hangout” with elevated pub fare, Arabella Park remains adamant about focusing on the 18 rotating beer taps in the dynamic yet relaxed venue.
Otherwise, the block or two of the quaint walkable Village offers a place to get a soup and sandwich at the same time you can have your “fixie” bicycle repaired. There’s also a raw vegetarian food restaurant, Thai cuisine, a classic breakfast diner, sub sandwiches, two elegant venues that are Janet Lynn’s Bistro and the Belmont Bistro, Indian food and the newly expanded Casa Rugantino for home-cooked Italian.
