At once fluffy and crispy and sweet and savoury, the humble doughnut has made significant strides in Waterloo Region as a delectable and artisanal treat – but one which has never lost its delicious sense of humour and food fun!
To say the least, Wendi Yates is passionate about cheese. Her small and cozy store tucked in beside the former post office and heritage building in historic Galt, Cambridge, is something of an homage to a quaint cheese shop you might discover in France, she says. And she asserts that she is similarly dedicated to finding the best cheeses from around the world, Canada and Ontario.
She selects rigorously and is adamant that she stocks her cooler case – about 100 varieties as well as other artisanally-produced local foods – with cheese that she enjoys. “Everything that I carry, I like,” Yates says steadfastly to her customers. “It’s my store. That’s my rule.” And that’s a determined French approach.
