City of Kitchener
The Berlin in Kitchener is not your average neighbourhood restaurant. A destination for amazing food, service and culture, the menu features a modern twist on European cuisine. By working with local farms and regional purveyors, Executive Chef Ben Lillico and hospitality veteran Ryan Lloyd-Craig have created a comfortable place where diners can enjoy good food…uninterrupted.
The Berlin is located in a four-storey heritage building built in the late 1800s. Much of its original charm has been maintained including the solid maple floors and exposed brick.
The restaurant covers 3,100 square feet and has a street-level dining room that seats 85 or holds 120 for cocktails, with a separate event space on the second floor that holds 100 for receptions and other special occasions.
At The Berlin food is prepared over a live fire, resulting in an inventive culinary style balancing tradition with imagination. The menu changes daily and is based on local ingredients that are available from local top-quality producers. Enjoy dishes such as grilled marinated beef dumplings with spaetzle, duck tortellini, and eggplant fritters. The Sunday Brunch menu features a wide array of freshly prepared pastries, meats and a la carte items. Guests can watch their meal being prepared in the completely open concept kitchen. The chefs at The Berlin are always happy to help meet special dietary needs.
The Berlin has been named ‘Favourite Places to Eat’ and ‘Best Restaurants Outside the GTA’ by Toronto Life Magazine. It was also nominated by Enroute as one of Canada’s Best New Restaurants.
Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays for brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; reservations are recommended and can be made on The Berlin website.
